IDS 2014

I made it to IDS for Trade Day!!  Some of the many great displays caught my eye but a few really stood out.
One of the interesting displays was the Korhani exhibit which featured Talking mannequins guiding us through the space, having Alice in Wonderland at the entry.  The mannequins were all wearing Korhani rugs which shows how fashion and interior design really do overlap.  Such a unique installation.  Korhani has been around since 1902 and offer stylish and affordable product lines.

Happy second week of 2014....

Well I will not be posting about all the wonderful things going on this month that I am missing because I had a little confrontation with some ice and did a teeny bit of damage to my right leg.... yes the same leg I trashed a few years ago and of course it had to be the driving leg.  My fingers are crossed that it is not serious and that I can get physio and back on track soon.  January is historically a busy month with many events and trade shows.  I do hope to attend some of the IDS trade day next week (a colleague is driving me) so I can get a look at all that is new and fantastic and then I can inform readers all about it.

So everybody, be careful on that ice!!

Back in the fall after the highpoint market I listed the trends seen this year and have been selecting some to highlight.  Lacquered Furniture was very popular as well as bright colours.  This treatment on traditional pieces gives an entirely new and exciting look.
Adding a bright pop of colour to a traditional piece makes it unique and exciting!
Here are a few examples of some lacquered pieces, both contemporary and antique

Hanging out in Cabo.....

I had a fantastic vacation between Christmas and New Years this year.  We headed off to Cabo and had the best time ever.  It was really last minute and we were not expecting too much but it actually rated way higher.  This resort is new to the area, however they have many across the Caribbean.  We stayed at the Royal DeCameron Resort which sits at the tip of the Baja Peninsula so that you have the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Sea of Cortez on the other dividing it from the Mexican mainland.  The climate was heavenly - hot during the day with no humidity and cooler at night.  One could walk for miles and not become uncomfortable.  Everything about this resort was great - the staff, the amenities and as a real surprise it had the best food I have ever had at an all inclusive resort.  It rivaled good restaurants at home with the variety and their ability to prepare it.  My favourite was New Years Eve and there was Lobster Thermidor, salmon, Beef Wellington, Grilled Shrimp and that is only a teeny list of what was served.  The entertainment was much better than I have ever seen at Caribbean resorts as well.  They didn't just have the day staff dress up and perform; they brought in professionals.  All in all, a wonderful time.

a lovely historic town we were able to walk to

The church in the town square of San Jose del Cabo is the historic Mission of San Jose del Cabo Aniti which was founded by a Jesuit in 1730 and moved to this location in 1840. After the hurricane of 1918 it was once again reconstructed maintaining the original structure and some of its walls.
